Westport Police were dispatched to Panera Bread (1860 Post Road East) on a report of an attempted robbery on Friday, Oct. 25 around 9 p.m.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect, who allegedly fled prior to officer arrival, entered through the front door and approached an employee at the service counter, according to police.
While displaying a box cutter, police say the man instructed the employee not to move and then walked him to the rear of the establishment past other employees
Police say the man displayed a box cutter and told the employee not to move before walking him to the back of the establishment and returning to the front of the store.
The man attempted to open cash registers and was unsuccessful, police say.
The suspect then allegedly tried and failed to access the office inside the restaurant.
The man ultimately fled through the front door and was last seen running westbound through the parking lot, according to police.
No employees or patrons were injured during the incident.
The suspect is described as a thin man 5 feet 6 inches tall wearing a black hoodie, a ski mask, blue jeans, blue and white sneakers and gloves, according to police.
